Spain Yoga Retreat

I’ve had a long-standing love affair with Barcelona and the Catalan coast since my first visit to Barcelona in 1990, and this is one of many reasons that I am excited to offer my first retreat in Spain from the 13th to the 20th May 2020.

Accomodation

This 5-night retreat will be held in a beautiful converted 15th century farmhouse in Allela. A recently renovated 15th century farmhouse, Can Bernadas is an idyllic spot a short walking distance to Alella town and 25 minutes from central Barcelona. The 30-acre estate has two swimming pools using natural mineral water from the mountains, orange groves, private lake and direct access to the national park. The house and the ground are entirely private, allowing us peace and space to relax and indulge ourselves with delicious food, plenty of yoga and meditation and rest.

The house itself is light and airy and very clean and comfortable and has been renovated to a high standard. The bedrooms are all private with wonderful views from the windows and have shared bathroom facilities with walk-in showers. As the grounds are so large there’s plenty of time and time in the schedule for you to spend some time alone if you wish for meditation or just to read a book and relax. Spaces are available in twin rooms or have a double to yourself for a single supplement.

Yoga

The yoga sessions will be a mix of intensity and pace, where there are morning sessions we will indulge ourselves with an hour and a half class where we can spend more time warming up and work more deeply into our practice than the usual one hour class allows. Where there are evening sessions, we will use restorative and yin yoga to unwind and work more with our meditation and pranayama (breath) practices to allow ourselves to relax for the evening.

Depending upon the weather and the time of day we will aim to do our practice outside in the grounds, or even at the beach on Sunday. In the unlikely event of being unable to do so, there is ample space inside the house for us to have a cosy, inside class together.

Don’t miss out, BOOK NOW to send your £95 deposit.

The Town of Alella

Alella is a small town in a winegrowing region only 14 kilometres north of Barcelona and has been on the map since Roman times. The beach and marina at El Masnou are just down the road; many others are in easy reach along beautiful Costa Brava. What you see today is a gently rolling landscape dotted with the bright orange clay roof tiles of the houses nestled into the folds of the Rials Valley. Many of the original farmhouses that used to dominate the landscape remain and have been largely passed down through the generations into the hands of today’s winemaking families. These beautiful old structures overlook the terraced land that makes up much of the region of Alella.

Where there is space in the afternoons there will be opportunity to walk into town and explore a little, and we will visit a restaurant in Alella for dinner on Saturday evening.

Visit to Barcelona

On Friday we will visit my favourite city in the world – Barcelona. I first went to Barcelona on a language exchange program in 1990 to meet my then pen-pal, now cherished friend, Monica. I’ve lost count of the times that I have visited this wonderful and vibrant city that delights me with every visit. We will plan what to visit together; perhaps you’d like to see the famous Parc Guell or the Sagrada Famila, walk down Las Ramblas to see the iconic Teatro Liceu, or explore the Gothic Quarter and see some of the ancient squares and churches?

To enjoy the yoga, and visit the Alella and Barcelona, be sure to BOOK NOW.
